Clean, healthy water — ultrafiltration under the sink or at the point of entry
The IMT-U4 ultrafiltration unit uses membrane technology with a pore size of 0.01 micrometre. The membrane physically captures and removes viruses, bacteria, sludge, rust, microplastics and nanoplastics from water. Unlike a UV lamp or chlorination, it does not just inactivate microorganisms but physically removes them from the water — including dead cells. At the same time, it keeps all beneficial minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium).
Versatile installation — under the sink or at the point of entry
The IMT-U4 is unique in its flexibility — it can be installed under the kitchen sink to filter water at a single tap, or on the main water supply (point of entry) to filter all the water in the building. This sets it apart from the IMT-D3 and IMT-D5, which are designed for under-sink use only. It needs no electricity, but a drain is required at the installation site.
High flow rate without electricity
A flow rate of 1,000 l/h (16.6 l/min) fully covers the needs of a whole household and commercial premises. The unit works on household mains pressure alone (0.1–0.4 MPa) — no electricity, no pump. The PAN (polyacrylonitrile) membrane is hydrophilic and highly resistant to biofouling.
Long membrane life and sturdy construction
The PAN membrane lasts up to 36 months. Frequent flushing of captured impurities extends its life. We recommend installing an IMT-M5 or IMT-M8 pressure regulator with a mechanical pre-filter upstream of the IMT-U4 — this significantly extends membrane life. The brushed 304 stainless steel housing withstands both dynamic water hammer pressure and static pressure. The unit can be installed horizontally or wall-mounted.

FAQ
Everything you need to know about the IMT-U4
What is the IMT-U4 and what is it for?
The IMT-U4 is an ultrafiltration unit with a 0.01 μm PAN membrane. It removes viruses, bacteria, sludge, rust and microplastics while keeping beneficial minerals. It can be installed under the kitchen sink or on the main water supply (point of entry). It needs no electricity, but a drain is required at the installation site.
What is the difference between the IMT-U4 and IMT-U7?
Both units use a 0.01 μm PAN membrane and work without electricity. The IMT-U4 has a flow rate of 1,000 l/h and can be installed under the sink or at the point of entry; it is more flexible and cheaper. The IMT-U7 has a flow rate of 3 m3/h (3,000 l/h), is designed solely as a whole-house unit at the point of entry and has a more robust housing for heavier loads.
What is the difference between the IMT-U4 and IMT-D3?
The IMT-D3 is designed for under-sink use only and combines a UF membrane with activated carbon to remove chlorine. The IMT-U4 has no activated carbon, but it can also be installed at the point of entry as a whole-house solution. The IMT-U4 has a flow rate of 1,000 l/h, the IMT-D3 600 l/h.
Will the IMT-U4 replace a UV lamp?
Yes, and it is more effective. A UV lamp only inactivates bacteria and viruses, but their bodies remain in the water. The IMT-U4 physically captures microorganisms with a 0.01 μm membrane and removes them from the water completely, including dead cells. It also needs no electricity or bulb replacement.
Does the IMT-U4 need electricity or a drain?
The IMT-U4 needs no electricity; it works on household mains pressure alone (0.1–0.4 MPa). However, a drain is required at the installation site for membrane flushing, as with the IMT-D3, IMT-D5, IMT-U7 and IMT-U8 models.
Is the IMT-U4 suitable for well water?
Yes. The IMT-U4 reliably removes bacteria, viruses, algae, sludge and microplastics typical of well water. Installed at the point of entry, it filters all the water in the building. If the water also contains pesticides, pharmaceuticals or heavy metals, we recommend adding IMT-NC9 or IMT-RS8 NANO nanofiltration. H2O nanotec offers a free consultation based on your water analysis.
How long does the membrane last and how is it replaced?
The PAN ultrafiltration membrane lasts up to 36 months, depending on the quality of the incoming water. We recommend installing an IMT-M5 or IMT-M8 pressure regulator with a mechanical pre-filter upstream of the IMT-U4, which significantly extends membrane life. Replacement is simple using the special H2O nanotec key.
When should I choose the IMT-U4 instead of the IMT-U7?
The IMT-U4 is the right choice if you want a flexible solution — under-sink or point-of-entry installation — at a lower price. The IMT-U7 is better for larger buildings with higher water consumption, where a maximum flow rate of 3 m3/h and a robust stainless steel housing resistant to water hammer are key.
🔬 Scientific basis: The effectiveness of ultrafiltration in removing E. coli and coliform bacteria from well water has been documented by RNDr. Jiří Polman CSc., managing director of H2O nanotec, with reference to scientific literature (LeChevallier et al., Applied and Environmental Microbiology, 1988).
