Under-sink nanofiltration — the same membrane as the IMT-NC9 at a lower price

IMT-RS8 NANO nanofiltration is a compact, fully automatic unit with a semi-permeable membrane with a pore size of 0.001 micrometres — 10× finer than ultrafiltration. It removes viruses, bacteria, chlorine, pesticides, heavy metals, iron, manganese, nitrates, nitrites, rust and other harmful substances, microplastics and nanoplastics from water. It also partially softens the water, and the activated carbon in the pre-filter removes chlorine and organic odours. Unlike reverse osmosis, it keeps beneficial minerals (calcium, magnesium, potassium).

Fully automatic operation with LED indicators

The IMT-RS8 NANO is equipped with an integrated high-pressure pump (120 W). The status of the unit and filters is shown by clear LED indicators that automatically alert you when a cartridge change is due. Automatic membrane flushing extends membrane life with no user intervention. Changing a filter takes 5 seconds thanks to the bayonet lock, with no tools and without interrupting the water supply. It is installed under the kitchen sink and needs a power socket and a drain connection.

Wi-Fi, the E-Water app and an optional SMART faucet

The unit can be connected to your home Wi-Fi network and controlled via the E-Water mobile app. An optional SMART faucet (matte black only) is available; it continuously measures TDS (total dissolved solids) and shows water quality in real time. The SMART faucet dispenses filtered water only — it is not a three-way faucet.

Two filtration stages — PPC + NF

The IMT-RS8 NANO system works with two filter cartridges: PPC (mechanical pre-filtration with activated carbon) and NF (0.001 μm nanofiltration membrane). Both cartridges are identical to those of the IMT-NC9. The PPC cartridge is changed every 6–12 months; the NF nanofiltration membrane lasts 24–36 months.

How does the IMT-RS8 NANO differ from the IMT-NC9?

The IMT-RS8 NANO uses the same PPC cartridge and the same 0.001 μm NF nanofiltration membrane as the IMT-NC9. It also shares automatic membrane flushing, bayonet filter changes, Wi-Fi with the E-Water app and the option of a SMART faucet. Differences: the IMT-RS8 NANO has no C carbon cartridge and uses LED indicators instead of a display. Its flow rate is 1.57 l/min. The IMT-NC9 additionally has the C cartridge, a colour touch display, a flow rate of 2.23 l/min and F. A. Porsche design.

FAQ
Everything you need to know about the IMT-RS8 NANO nanofiltration system

What is the IMT-RS8 NANO and what is it for?

The IMT-RS8 NANO is an under-sink water purifier with a 0.001 μm nanofiltration membrane. It removes viruses, bacteria, chlorine, pesticides, heavy metals, iron, manganese, nitrates, nitrites and microplastics. Unlike reverse osmosis, it keeps beneficial minerals (calcium, magnesium). It is a more affordable alternative to the IMT-NC9 nanofiltration unit, with the same PPC cartridge and the same NF membrane.

What is the difference between the IMT-RS8 NANO and the IMT-NC9?

Both units have the same PPC cartridge and the same 0.001 μm NF nanofiltration membrane, automatic membrane flushing and 5-second bayonet filter changes, and both support Wi-Fi and the E-Water app as well as the SMART faucet. The IMT-RS8 NANO has no C carbon cartridge, uses LED indicators instead of a display and has a flow rate of 1.57 l/min. The IMT-NC9 additionally has the C cartridge, a colour touch display, a flow rate of 2.23 l/min and F. A. Porsche design.

What is the difference between IMT-RS8 NANO nanofiltration and reverse osmosis?

Reverse osmosis removes almost everything from water, including beneficial minerals. IMT-RS8 NANO nanofiltration removes contaminants (pesticides, heavy metals, bacteria, viruses, nitrates) but keeps calcium, magnesium and potassium. The result is naturally mineralised, partially softened water.

Does the IMT-RS8 NANO remove pesticides and their metabolites?

Yes, very effectively. The IMT-RS8 NANO uses the same nanofiltration membrane as the IMT-NC9. Most pesticides have a molecular weight of roughly 200–400 g/mol, i.e. at or above the cut-off of a nanofiltration membrane. Their metabolites, which predominate in wells (e.g. the ESA and OXA metabolites of metazachlor or metolachlor), are also negatively charged and repelled by the membrane. Uncharged pesticides such as atrazine are additionally captured by the activated carbon in the PPC pre-filter. The weak spot is small uncharged metabolites, typically desphenyl-chloridazon. If a water test shows it at a higher concentration, we will recommend reverse osmosis. The EU drinking-water limit is 0.1 µg/l for each individual pesticide and 0.5 µg/l for their total.

Does the IMT-RS8 NANO remove PFAS ("forever chemicals")?

Yes, most of them. The 0.001 μm membrane corresponds to a cut-off of roughly 200–300 g/mol. The most closely monitored PFAS are larger: PFOS is about 500 g/mol, PFOA about 414 g/mol. The membrane surface is also negatively charged and repels negatively charged PFAS molecules. For these substances, the scientific literature typically reports nanofiltration rejection of over 90 %, often around 99 %. Long-chain PFAS are further adsorbed by the activated carbon in the PPC pre-filter. Short-chain PFAS with small molecules (e.g. PFBA, TFA) are captured less well by nanofiltration. For those, reverse osmosis is more reliable.

Has the PFAS efficiency been verified by an independent test?

We do not yet have a specific independent PFAS test of the IMT-RS8 NANO. PFAS are a group of more than ten thousand substances with different properties, so a single "PFAS efficiency" figure would be misleading. The efficiency is based on the physical principle of the membrane, i.e. its cut-off and electrical charge, and on published results for nanofiltration membranes.

How do I find out whether my water contains pesticides or PFAS?

Since 12 January 2026, EU drinking water has been subject to a limit of 0.1 µg/l for the sum of 20 monitored PFAS. On a public water supply, ask the operator for test results. For a private well, we recommend testing in an accredited laboratory, including pesticide metabolites. With low or undetectable levels, the IMT-RS8 NANO is an excellent choice; where higher levels are confirmed, we will recommend reverse osmosis. Send us your results and we will advise you free of charge.

Is a faucet included? Can I buy the SMART faucet?

A faucet is not included. To dispense filtered water you need a one-way or three-way faucet purchased separately. Optionally, you can buy the matte-black SMART faucet with TDS measurement, which shows the quality of the filtered water. It dispenses filtered water only and is not three-way.

How often are the IMT-RS8 NANO filter cartridges changed?

The PPC cartridge is changed every 6–12 months. The NF nanofiltration membrane lasts 24–36 months. Both cartridges are the same as in the IMT-NC9. The unit monitors filter status automatically and alerts you via an LED indicator and in the E-Water app when a change is due.

How is a filter changed in the IMT-RS8 NANO?

A filter change takes 5 seconds thanks to the bayonet lock, and you need no tools. Simply shut off the water supply to the unit, open the filtered-water tap to release the pressure, swap the cartridge and turn the supply back on.

Is the IMT-RS8 NANO suitable for well water?

Yes. The IMT-RS8 NANO removes the bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, iron, manganese and nitrates typical of well water while keeping minerals. H2O nanotec offers a free consultation based on your water test.

Is water from the IMT-RS8 NANO suitable for children and for preparing baby food?

Yes. The IMT-RS8 NANO removes microbiological contaminants and most chemical pollutants while keeping minerals. The result is clean, naturally mineralised water. It is suitable for everyday drinking, cooking and preparing baby food.
